Being

nearest
district to
Malatya (7 km), Yeşilyurt
with its unspoilt nature and historical houses is one of the most beautiful and
popular place for many visitors. It is situated on the South-West
part of Malatya, in the Eastern Anatolian region of Turkey. Although
the earliest inhabitants are not exactly known, it is supposed that
the area had been inhabited since 16th century. In 1957 not only
Yeşilyurt became officaly district but also its name was changed
from “İsmetpaşa” to “Yeşilyurt”. Its surface area is 590 square
kilometer, its altitude is 918 meter and population is totally
33.000. It comprises 4 municipalities and 20 villages.
Thanks to its rich water
supply, Yeşilyurt has a great deal of water sources to provide for
Malatya. Because of these water sources, its economy is based on
agriculture and cattle dealing. The symbol of Yeşilyurt is cherry
because of its amazing taste and size. This is why every June cherry
festival is celebrated in Yeşilyurt . Yeşilyurt is also one of
Turkey’s important cherry producer and most of this fruit is
exported (800.000kg/per year). Due to the fact that Yeşilyurt hosts
many agricultural and industrial factories it has a potential to
grow its economy faster.
Above all, being the
greenest area of Malatya, Yeşilyurt
attracts

with the facilities such as picnic, sightseeing and jogging.
Yeşilyurt is also very secure place and its people are very friendly.
Yeşilyurt’s famous dish is TAVA. It is made with meat and vegetable
in the traditional ovens. Its taste is very delicious.

preference, you can reach Yeşilyurt via land, air or rail. Erhac
airport is 26 km west of Malatya and passngers coming via air can
make their transfers buy bus or taxi from the airport. Moreover; the
railway station is 3 km west of the city centre and is connected to
the city by minibus or taxi. Transport between Yeşilyurt and Malatya
is done by minibuses in a very short time periods.
